If you add someone as a friend, and they add you back as a friend.Then you are mutual friends.

I think mutual friends on myspace refer to the friends you have in common with someone else on myspace...for example; my sister D and I have my sister Pam in our mutual friends list because she is on my friends list and D's list as well.

Well Mutual friends just means friends both of you have in common. So if you friend added someone and you added that person also, then you two are mutual friends. But also add that both of you guys have a lot in common... so hopefully you understand better now.
